Our Freedom and Its Results
eBookWomen in the United Kingdom have enjoyed considerably more political and social freedom since 1918, due to the successes won by the women’s movement. In this book, first published in 1936, five women of experience and knowledge discuss what has come and is coming of the freedom of women.
The five essays which comprise this book examine the freedom of women in regard to politics, law, employment, morals and social life. The authors look at what has been achieved thus far, for example through legislation, and what remains to be done, such as addressing the economic inequality of women. As well as looking broadly at the topics of politics, law, employment, society and morality, it addresses a number of pressing contemporary issues, such as sex work, domestic violence, birth control, unmarried mothers and child adoption.
Edited by Ray Strachey (1887 – 1940). The five contributors are leading feminist women: Eleanor Rathbone, Member of Parliament; Dr. Erna Reiss, barrister; Ray Strachey, former Member of Parliament; Alison Neilans, Secretary of the Association for Moral and Social Hygiene; and Mary Agnes Hamilton, also a former Member of Parliament.
This special edition is published by Lewisham Press, 2021. Our Freedom and Its Results is an in-depth examination of the position of women in society, and an important source for feminists and historians.
