F. P. Crozier

Ireland For Ever

eBook

An important first-hand narrative of the Irish War of Independence by British Brigadier General Frank Crozier, who was commandant of the Auxiliary Division of the Royal Irish Constabulary from 1920 to 1921.

According to Frank Crozier’s account he resigned the command of the Auxiliary Division of the Royal Irish Constabulary in protest of his being prevented from enforcing discipline. He claims Auxiliaries under his command were engaged in widespread violence and crime.

A professional soldier for most of his life, Frank Crozier also details in the book how he previously trained the Ulster Volunteers and was involved in the associated gun-running.

Frank Crozier knew Ireland well from childhood. A strong assertion throughout the book is that Ireland and its history is widely misunderstood by the English.

Following his military career, Frank Crozier went on to become a writer and pacifist. He was a controversial figure, but his writing is highly readable and an important primary source.

First published in 1932. This special edition is published by Lewisham Press, 2020.

Frank Percy Crozier was born in Bermuda in 1879. He died in Walton-on-Thames, Surrey, England in 1937.
